Today, we performed an outpatient midurethral sling procedure for stress urinary incontinence (SUI).
The surgery took only about 20 minutes, and the patient was able to go home just 1.5 hours later, after confirming they could urinate normally.
This minimally invasive approach is now a safe and effective option for many patients.
What is a Midurethral Sling?
A midurethral sling surgery is a common treatment for stress urinary incontinence, a condition where urine leaks with coughing, sneezing, or physical activity.
A mesh tape is placed under the urethra to provide support—like a “sling”—and prevent leakage.
When Was This Introduced in Japan?
The midurethral sling procedure was first introduced in Japan around 2001 (over 20 years ago).
The TVT (Tension-Free Vaginal Tape) method was the original technique, and from the beginning, it was performed under local anesthesia.
Later, even less invasive techniques like TVT-O (transobturator approach) became available, further enhancing safety and outcomes.
Can All Hospitals Offer This as an Outpatient Procedure?
Unfortunately, not all hospitals are equipped to offer this surgery on an outpatient basis.
It requires:
Skilled surgeons with extensive experience A well-structured postoperative monitoring system Quick access to support if any issues arise
At our clinic, we carefully assess each case and safely perform same-day discharge surgeries for eligible patients.
Our Standard Process (Same-Day Sling Surgery)
Check-in and preparation You arrive at the clinic in the morning, relax, and receive preparation for surgery. Local anesthesia surgery (approx. 20 minutes) A small incision is made in the vagina, and the tape is placed under the urethra—no abdominal incision is needed. Observation and urination check (approx. 90 minutes) We monitor your condition and confirm you can urinate before going home the same day.

Final Thoughts
Same-day sling surgery is a great option for patients who want a quick recovery and minimal downtime.
Of course, proper assessment is essential to determine suitability.
“I didn’t expect it to be that simple.”
“I finally regained control and confidence after years of leakage.”
We hear comments like these all the time.
If you’re struggling with urinary leakage, don’t hesitate to reach out.
There’s a solution—and it might only take one day.
